Big brands settle on Phu Quoc

PHU QUOC, Vietnam, 15 August: Major hotel groups have quietly opened up shop on Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, where holiday makers can enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 30 days.

Big brand names have added more than 800 rooms at the top-end of the market since last year with the latest Radisson Blu opening today 15 August.

The 514-room hotel is part of a integrated resort that features Phu Quoc island’s first casino.

Located on the island’s northwest coast at Ganh Dau beach, Vietnam’s first Radisson Blu Resort comes with some heavy-duty features such as a convention centre, shopping mall, restaurants, theatre and Vietnam’s first casino that allows permit domestic entry. There is also an 18-hole golf course and safari conservation park on the resort’s doorstep.

The hotel’s accommodation is within walking distance to the beach. It opening rate is USD130, but it was not possible to book directly on the hotel’s website, 15 August, while popular booking sites such as Booking.com and Agoda were not featuring the property.

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group manages the property on behalf of owners Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Tourist Investment and Development Joint Stock Co.

Fusion Resort Phu Quoc, that claims to be the island’s only all-spa inclusive resort, opened in June 2017 with 97 private pool villas. It has since added more villas. Ranked highly by booking sites with a 9.2 score room rates  start at around USD419.

JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa also opened in early 2017 with 243 rooms, located on Khem Beach in the far south of the holiday island. The property listed on Booking.com quotes a rate of around USD351.Novotel Phu Quoc also opened in mid-2017 with 306 rooms on the beach near Doung Dong town. This is the cheapest of the popular international branded hotels on the island at USD106 a night.

In June this year, InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort opened with 459 luxurious rooms, suites and villas, at a beachfront location. Just two months following its launch, the rate on booking sites is between USD162 to USD187.
