Rosewood to battle the Strand

-

YANGON, 23 July 2028: Rosewood says it is all set to open its first branded property in Myanmar by November, located on the city’s historical Strand Road near the river cruise terminal.

The 209-room Rosewood Yangon will open on a stretch of the historical road about 2 km from the city’s Strand Hotel, probably the most famous luxury property in the city.

The historic Strand Hotel that opened in 1901 offers its best rates on Hotel.com and Agoda at THB5,957, while  Trip.com (formerly CTrip) quotes a rate of THB8,796.

That’s the benchmark for the Rosewood that is currently not selling rooms on its global website for its yet to open Yangon property.

The property stands within easy reach of the city’s most well-known attractions such Bogyoke Aung San market (formerly known as Scott’s market) and the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda.

The new hotel represents a massive structural remake of what was once a heritage building built in 1927 to house country’s law courts.

Rosewood Yangon will feature rooms, suites, one and two-bedroom apartments many of which will have balconies providing views of Yangon River.

Rosewood Yangon will join Rosewood’s distinctive Asian properties including Rosewood Beijing, Rosewood Phuket, Rosewood Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Rosewood Luang Prabang, Laos, and Rosewood Sanya.

Rosewood replaced Kempinski as the management group on a property that has taken five years to build and surrounded by considerable controversy.

There was a strong lobby from Yangon’s lawyers to restore the building to its original court function.

At the time the hotel’s investors included Kempinski Group, a Thai firm and a Myanmar conglomerate.

Thailand’s Kanok Furniture and Decoration and Myanmar’s Jewellery Luck Group of Companies, two key investors in the project, announced in June that the management contract had been transferred to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.
