Platinum for a clean Venetian

-

MACAU, 2 July 2018:  The Venetian Macau has been awarded the Macau Green Hotel Platinum Award, the first hotel in Macau to earn the new top platinum designation.

It gained top recognition by providing evidence of progress in various critical areas on a year-on-year basis.

It included cutting waste year-on-year and making electric vehicle parking spaces and charging stations available on site.

It also had to demonstrate adoption of an eco-friendly mattress replacement programme, creation of a management plan to reduce food waste; and a programme to carry out regular carbon audits to identify areas for improvement.

One of the practical steps monitored whether the hotel ensured its shuttle bus fleet turned engines off when parked, or waiting for guests.

The Parisian Macau, which opened in September 2016, gained the Gold category, as did the Four Seasons Hotel Macau, Cotai Strip.

Five other hotels in the Sands China properties group maintained Gold status: Sands Macau; St. Regis Macau, Cotai Central; Conrad Macau, Cotai Central; Sheraton Grand Macau Hotel, Cotai Central; and Holiday Inn Macau Cotai Central.

Energy-saving LED lights and the optimisation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems saved 21 million kWh of electricity in 2017 – enough to power more than 50,000 households for one month.

Started in 2007, the Macau Green Hotel Award is organised by the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) in collaboration with the Macau Government Tourism Office.
