Hard Rock Hotel wins CSR award

-

GEORGETOWN, Penang, 23 July 2018: Hard Rock Hotel Penang received the CSR Malaysia Award for 2018 Company of The Year, in the hotel category.

The hotel was selected by a panel of independent judges representing corporate and social bodies.

The citation praised the hotel for going the extra mile to reach out to needy communities and to engage in sustainability endeavours in efforts to create a better Malaysia.

All winners from various industries were selected based on the authenticity of their philanthropy initiatives, the creative implementations and frequency of initiatives held and the significant impacts created from the initiatives in support of the local community.

CSR Malaysia Awards 2018, organised by CSR Malaysia magazine, gained the support of Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. The event was attended by some 450 corporate personalities and foreign dignitaries.

Hard Rock Hotel Penang was one of the 35 listed and private companies in Malaysia being honoured, recognized and awarded for going the extra mile to reach out to needy communities and to engage in sustainability endeavours in efforts to create a better Malaysia.

Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia cum Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail attended the event with CSR Malaysia’s chairman Dato’ R. Rajendran and its co-chairman and managing editor Lee Seng Chee.

“It is our first time to have been recognised by a Corporate Social Responsibility awards programme … Hard Rock Hotel Penang lives by the motto, “Take Time To Be Kind”, and prides itself organising approximately six philanthropy campaigns a year to support the local community,” said Hard Rock Hotel Penang general manager John Primmer.

Annual philanthropy initiatives organised by Hard Rock Hotel Penang include Rock-A-Duck, Rock To Rock Run and the Pinfest Rockers’ Meal. The inaugural Rock-A-Duck 2017 campaign that was submitted by the hotel for the award selection successfully raised RM50,000 for Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Persekutuan, a school for the hearing impaired to build a zinc roof to provide shelter for the students to assemble and perform their daily recreational activities.

Due to its success, the hotel is currently running the second edition of the Rock-A-Duck campaign  to support a similar cause and this time it is for Sekolah Kebangsaan Jenis (C) Poay Wah, a national primary school that receives limited operating fund support from the government.

The hotel encourages the public to support the cause by donating MYR10 in exchange of a limited-edition rubber duck and an entitlement to a lucky draw. Hard Rock Hotel Penang will invite a public figure to select the winners, giveaway prizes and to present a mock cheque to the selected school on the draw date.
