AirAsia free for a year

-

SEPANG, 18 July 2018: AirAsia said it was giving away one year of free flights during a landmark hour-long Facebook live special hosted 17 July.

Flyers were told to tune into the airline’s Facebook page from 0800 to 0900 (GMT+8), 17 July, for a chance to win prizes, including free flights.

The Facebook promotion also included a live celebrity face-off between AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

Additional Facebook chats were performed with three of AirAsia’s founding members, Dato’ Abdel Aziz Bin Abu Bakar, Dato’ Pahamin Ab Rajab and Tony Fernandes.

To be eligible to pick up free flights for one-year contestants had to answer three questions fielded during the one-hour show.

Facebook fans had to collect the three questions and submit answers in the comments section of the Facebook live video as their submissions. The winner was due to be announced at the end of the live show.

The giveaway quiz was open to all AirAsia Facebook followers, but was subject to terms and conditions.

The downsides of these Facebook promotions are pretty obvious. We follow AirAsia on Facebook, but there were no posts from AirAsia on our Facebook pages to even hint we needed to check the AirAsia Facebook page urgently.

And when you do open AirAsia’s Facebook, as one of its followers, the page pops up in Thai language (residents of Thailand) with the usual fare offers and not a single mention of a year’s free flying opportunity.

Finally, Facebook refreshes and usually the fare offers from any airline using Facebook as a sales platform disappear to be replaced at random by other posts some of them quite out-dated. Or we can waste more of our valuable time scrolling down the pages in the hope we can find the absentee post. Depending on Facebook’s whims on what appears high on the pages that might not work.
