SINGAPORE, 13 June: Bali turns out to be the world’s best spot to detox or enjoy wellness treatments according to the latest TripAdvisor research based on reviews.
TripAdvisor says it has identified Zen destinations where travellers can retreat to focus on well-being, yoga and meditation based on destinations seeing the greatest amount of related searches on the global review site.
According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness tourism accounted for USD 563 billion in 2015, up 14% from 2013 and is expected to grow to USD 808 billion by 2020.
The growth trend is reflected in 25% of travellers saying they plan to take a wellness trip in the next 12 months, according to a recent poll of TripAdvisor’s global Facebook community.
No stranger to winning TripAdvisor recognition, Bali topped the global list for wellness holidays, but other Asian destinations performed well.
Rishikesh in India was second and Thailand’s Samui Island fifth. The Maldives and Goa in India also appeared in the top 10 list giving Asia five destinations out of the global 10.
Traditional wellness haunt, Zermatt in Switzerland and Ibiza in Spain were the only two European destinations on the global list
