EarthCheck builds on China base

HONG KONG, 20 June 2018: EarthCheck has gained the green light to set up its own certification programme in the People’s Republic of China.

EarthCheck is a benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism, worldwide.

In April 2016, EarthCheck signed a partnership agreement with China Standard Conformity Assessment Co Ltd (CSCA), a leading environmental certification and consulting firm for the tourism industry in China.

The commercial alliance signed with CSCA gave EarthCheck a stronger footing in China although it has been offering services to clients there for a decade or more.

In its latest announcement, Tuesday, the group said there was a growing demand for a more structured approach to certification programmes in China.

By gaining approval from the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA), established in 2001, it can run independently of local partners.

Under the agreement, CNCA it has formally endorsed and approved EarthCheck as a certification programme for China’s blossoming tourism industry.

CNCA deputy director, Changzhou Liu said: Inspection and accreditation in China play an important role in transmitting trust and service development.”

EarthCheck’s founder and CEO and executive director of the APEC International Centre for Sustainable Tourism, Stewart Moore, said it was an honour to be recognised by China as a global leader in certification.

“We are privileged to be working with CNCA delivering high quality services and supporting sustainable tourism. Destinations and enterprises that demonstrate environmental integrity are more likely to succeed at the same time as delivering positive outcomes for the planet,” Moore added.

EarthCheck is a global business advisory group specialising in sustainability that has supported 360 research projects with a total value of USD 260 million. Its flagship product, EarthCheck Certified, is a leading scientific benchmarking and certification programme for the travel and tourism industry.
