United play pet friendly

-

BANGKOK, 4 May 2018: United Airlines issued a statement, Thursday, saying it will resume the carriage of pets but with some restrictions.

The airline suspended pets from travelling cargo after a flight attendant, last March, ordered a passenger to place a French bulldog in an overhead bin. It suffocated and the passenger is now taking suing the airline.

United says it will ban 21 different dog breeds and four cat breeds that tend get travel stress or suffer from heat.

Some dog breeds don’t travel well such as bulldogs, pugs and boxers. Burmese, Himalayan, Persian and exotic short hair cats are also barred from flight travel.

United will start accepting dogs and cats effective 9 July, but the pet’s owner must be booked on the same flight.

The airline has also partnered with animal nonprofit American Humane to improve pet travel conditions.

While the pet transporting programme PetSafe was suspended, the airline said it was consulting pet safety and travel experts to find a solution.
