Singapore honours best in tourism

-

SINGAPORE, 10 May 2018: Singapore honoured its best in tourism, Tuesday evening, at the annual Singapore Tourism Awards.

The awards ceremony was presided over by President Halimah Yacob.

The Singapore Tourism Awards is an integral part of the Singapore Tourist Board’s strategy to recognise and promote a vibrant tourism industry.

This year’s highest accolade, the Lifetime Achievement for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award, went to Dr Kiat Tan, founding CEO, NParks and Gardens by the Bay.

Known for his passion and unwavering devotion to the greening of Singapore for over 30 years, Tan was instrumental in the development of Gardens by the Bay and redevelopment of Singapore Botanic Gardens – both of which have grown to become world-renowned attractions.

STB chief executive Lionel Yeo said: “I am heartened to see many fresh and remarkable experiences delivered by our award finalists and recipients each year. It is our hope that their passion for what they do will play a part in the telling of the great Singapore story, of how passion is made possible through grit and determination.”

Singapore recorded 17.4 million tourists last year and they spent a total of USD 26.8 billion, also a historical high, noted Yeo during presentation.
