Sabre strengthens lead in ASEAN

-

SINGAPORE – 2 May 2018: Sabre maintains its historical market share lead in the ASEAN region by renewing key distribution agreements last week with two airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Lion Air Group in Indonesia.

Vietnam is emerging as a major inbound and outbound travel market in Southeast Asia.

According to official forecasts made by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, arrival numbers should increase from 17 million to 20 million visitors by 2020.

Aggressive domestic and international consumer demand in the country will see Vietnam Airlines become one of the largest airlines in Southeast Asia by 2024.

Vietnam Airlines renewed a distribution agreement with Sabre, last week, to ensure Sabre’s travel agency network continues to have full access to the airline’s fare inventory.

Over the last 24 years, the airline has been a long-time user of Sabre services, previously through Abacus, which allows it to present all fare offers and flights to travel agents worldwide.

Meanwhile, a new content distribution agreement with Lion Air Group, the largest privately-owned airline in Indonesia and its subsidiary, Wings Air.

Through the new agreement, Sabre’s global distribution system offers the full fare inventory of the Lion Air Group to travel agents worldwide.  It will support both the airline’s reservations and planning and scheduling capabilities through a solution called SabreSonic Passenger Services System and AirVisions Solutions.

As Indonesia remains a rapidly growing travel market, Lion Air Group is expanding operations and has selected Sabre as its primary GDS to distribute content across a global travel marketplace.

“With our content now available to 425,000 travel agents worldwide, the extension of our agreement with Sabre will be instrumental to our continued success,” said Lion Air CEO, Rudy Lumingkewas.

Lion Air and Wings Air operate an extensive domestic and international network of routes with 166 aircraft based in the main hub of Jakarta.
