Nuts and water rage shakes KAL

-

SEOUL, 7 May 2018: Korean Air staff held a city-centre protest at the weekend calling for the airline’s chairman to resign over the bad behaviour his daughters.

KAL chairman, Cho Yang Ho, apologised for the latest outburst by one his two spoiled daughters.

However, it was not enough for KAL staff who have called for his resignation.

In the latest incident, one of the daughters was accused of throwing water over people during a management meeting.

In 2014, the other daughter insulted KAL cabin crew over what was termed nut rage at the time.  She went ballistic over how she was served peanuts as the aircraft was preparing to taxi for take off.

Protesters said there could be no mercy, the chairman had to go.

The latest tantrum by the 34-year-old daughter and KAL heiress,  Cho Hyun Min, reignited public impatience with the family-run conglomerates, known as ‘chaebol’, over what some people view as unchecked bad behaviour by the rich and powerful.

In response to the public backlash, Cho made his daughters step down from their positions at the airline and made a public apology for their behaviour.

But airline pilots, flight attendants and staff said they would continue to protest on the streets until the chairman steps down. They are also demanding greater transparency over the management of the company.

South Korean police at the weekend said they were seeking an arrest warrant for Cho Hyun Min on suspicion of assault during her recent angry outburst. According to a Reuters report she denied any wrongdoing.
