BANGKOK, 26 March 2018: Accor Hotels open its first Sofitel in Myanmar along the shores of Inle Lake, the country second largest freshwater lake and an emerging tourist destination as well as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Sofitel Inle Lake Myat Min opened for business, 5 March, with an opening offer of USD100 a night for a luxury room up a net rate of USD130 for direct bookings and from destination management companies according to Accor’s press release and follow-up clarification.
A check of the hotel’s website page on AccorHotels indicated the cheapest bookable rate in late April for a luxury room was USD 113 plus VAT 16.95, which gives you a rate of USD 129.95.
At the time of this report, the hotel was not distributing rates through OLTAs, but the group has a best rate guarantee policy for its website bookings.
It was not featured on Agoda.com, but another Accor property, Novotel Inle Lake Myat Min, was listed with a rate of USD 80 before tax. A check of the Accor website offered a rate of USD 89.25 plus tax USD 13.39.
Inle lake, in Shan State, is most famous for its boatmen who propel their boats with a one-legged rowing technique, but the lake and valley is also known for cottage industries and cultural heritage in lakeside villages accessible from the hotel by boat or car.
Following Inle Lake’s inscription as a site in UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves programme in 2015, Sofitel Inle Lake is likely to be one of the last new hotels to be built directly by the water. There are now stringent regulations to safeguard the lake’s environment from hotel development close to the shore to reduce pollution.
The hotel’s 101 rooms include 36 luxury rooms and 65 suites of varying sizes.
The introductory offer includes accommodation on luxury room bookings also includes breakfast for two and 10% discount on spa treatments. Once the introductory rates expire 30 June the standard rates for a luxury room will start USD 198.
Sofitel Inle Lake Myat Min is located 47 km from Heho Airport.
AccorHotels has six hotels in Myanmar, including MGallery The Lake Garden Nay Pyi Taw, Novotel Inle Lake Myat Min, Novotel Yangon Max, Ibis Styles Yangon Stadium, Mercure Yangon Kabar Aye and Sofitel Inle Lake Myat Min.
