SINGAPORE, 7 March 2018: Southeast Asia’s beaches figured strongly in the TripAdvisor’s Top beaches in Asia list, but not a single one made it to the worldwide list.
TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site from reviews to bookings, announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice Awards for beaches in Asia and the world last week.
This year, India’s Agonda Beach led Asia’s top 10 list, but beaches in Southeast Asia took six of the 10 places, including two beaches in Thailand and two in the Philippines.
India merited two mentions in the top 10, the other being Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar, which was placed fourth.
Ironically, Boracay’s White Beach Panay Island Philippines gained the second spot on the list despite being severely criticised by the Philippines’ President for its polluted, smelly waters.
Ngapali Beach, Ngapali, Rakhine State, Myanmar was placed third.
The highest placed Thai beach was Phra Nang Cave Beach on Ao Nang bay, Krabi Province (fifth) and Nai Harn Beach, Rawai, Phuket in seventh place.
The award are based on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor, gathered over a 12-month period.
TripAdvisor has awarded 355 beaches overall, including the top 25 in the world and local lists for Asia, Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and more.
