Vietnam Tet attracts visits

HUE, Vietnam, 26 February 2018: Tourism officials in this former imperial city say they estimate 120,000 visitors visited Hue during the country’s Tet holidays

Over the holiday period, the Hue Complex of Monuments, a World Cultural Heritage estimated a 50% increase in visits.

About 48,000 of the visitors were foreigners travelling on holiday packages.

The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre organised a ceremony at The Mieu- Dai Noi (Hue imperial citadel) on 22 February to lower the Neu pole as part of the closing ceremony for the week-long lunar New Year holiday.

This year, apart from offering free entry tickets to Hue city, the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre also hosted activities to recreate a traditional Tet in the royal palace.

In addition to traditional tours, travel companies in Hue organised tours to Thanh Toan Bridge, Thanh Tien paper flower village, and the city’s ancient pagodas.

The week of festivities started 14 February across the country.

Further south the Danang Tourism Department said the central coastal city attracted 300,000 tourist arrivals during Tet, up 14% from 2017. The number of international visitors reached 132,000, up 14% year-on-year.

In the Mekong Delta region Can Tho, meanwhile, received 700,000 tourists, 10% higher than last year, according to its Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
