HELSINKI, 19 February 2018: Helsinki hopes its latest sales tool, WeChat Helsinki, launched will convince more Chinese travellers to visit the Finnish capital.
The mini programme WeChat Helsinki, launched last week, will reach out to a potential audience estimated at 1 billion Chinese.
The app was developed by Tencent and launched 15 February by the Mayor of Helsinki, Jan Vapaavuori, and Tencent governmental affairs and tourism general manager Zhan Shu, as part of Chinese New Year celebrations in Helsinki.
The initial version of the WeChat Helsinki app allows users to access content about Helsinki’s sights, services, events and transportation. Panoramic Helsinki 360-photos, a translation service and emergency help are also included.
In 2017 the number of overnight stays by Chinese visitors increased by 29,3% over the previous year to reach 135 000.
