Cathay to fly to Cape Town

-

HONG KONG, 26 February 2018: Cathay Pacific will launch a seasonal nonstop service to Cape Town, South Africa, later this year.

It will be the airline’s first direct link to this popular business and tourism destination from Hong Kong.

The three-times-weekly service, starting 13 November 2018, will operate until 18 February 2019 and complement Cathay Pacific’s existing daily nonstop flights to Johannesburg.

The airline will use an Airbus A350-900 aircraft for the new seasonal route.

Cathay Pacific chief executive officer, Rupert Hogg said: “We are very pleased to be able to expand our services in Africa, a booming aviation market.

Growing our reach to destinations that are not otherwise served from Hong Kong creates considerable new opportunities for business, trade and tourism, in addition to strengthening our home hub.”

It will provide Asian travellers with a service during the peak  months during the southern hemisphere summer.

It will also provide South African-based travellers with  a nonstop service to Hong Kong a gateway for travel to mainland China.

In 2017, the airline started services to Tel Aviv, Barcelona and Christchurch, while this January saw the inaugural flight to Nanning. Other regional and international routes to commence in 2018 include Jinan and Brussels (March), Copenhagen (May), Dublin (June) and Washington DC (September).

Cape Town, a major financial and business services centre and also the gateway to the Western Cape’s flourishing wine and agricultural region, is set against the backdrop of the famous Table Mountain plateau and its  long list incredible attractions make it a true multicultural marvel.
