BANGKOK 25 January 2018: Thai AirAsia X resumes daily direct flights Bangkok-Sapporo, 10 April, after a almost a three year break.
The airline suspended the service August 2015 after the International Civil Aviation Organisation downgraded Thailand’s aviation rating.
A successful review of the Thai government’s supervision of aviation safety by ICAO last year reinstated the country’s rating, opening the door for airlines to expand international services.
On the Bangkok-Sapporo route, promotional fares start at THB3,990 for bookings made by 28 January with travel valid from 10 April to 27 October. Premium Flat Bed Class seats are on sale at THB12,900.
Thai AirAsia X CEO, Nadda Buranasiri, said that the route is the first addition by Thai AirAsia X following the elimination of Thailand’s red flag status after an ICAO review.
Hokkaido is a high potential destination and is already second only to Tokyo in terms of most popular place to visit in Japan among Thai travellers.
The island can be visited year-round and is best known for its wealth of seafood, especially the ever popular Taraba Crab. Visitors can enjoy Sapporo’s catchy travel concept “Eat Crab, Watch Bears, Go Skiing, See the Lavenders” just a seven-hour flight from Bangkok.
The addition of Sapporo offers a new travel option for both Thai and foreign travellers, including those in Japan who wish to fly low fares to Thailand.
Thai AirAsia X currently flies direct from Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) to Seoul, South Korea three times daily; Tokyo, Japan two times daily; Osaka, Japan two times daily and Shanghai, China daily.
This year, Thai AirAsia X will acquire three more Airbus A330 planes giving it a fleet of nine aircraft.
