NEW DELHI, 1 December 2017: The 6th International Tourism Mart will be hosted in Guwahati, Assam from 5 to 7 December, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
The country’s northeast states are backing the travel mart due to be hosted in Taj Vivanta with the official opening precided over by the Governor of Assam, Shri Jagdish Mukhi.
The 6th International Tourism Mart, will put the spotlight on India’s “Act East Policy”, that is part of a wider initiative to work closely with the 10-nation ASEAN bloc and East Asia namely China, Korea and Japan.
Besides aiding discussions on promoting tourism to India’s northeast region, the ‘Act East Policy” will also focus on promoting cultural ties, people-to-people contacts with countries in the ASEAN region providing improved connectivity with states in India’s northeast region.
Now in its 6th year the International Tourism Mart is primary organised to push tourism to the northeast region across both domestic and international markets. The event facilitates networking between buyers, sellers, media, government agencies and other stakeholders.
States from the northeast represented at the event comprise of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. They are known for their diverse tourist attractions, stunning topography, flora and fauna, ethnic communities and ancient traditions and lifestyles. In addition there is a wide variety of festivals, arts and crafts waiting to discovered.
Buyers and media delegates from India and major travel source markets will participate in the mart engaging in one-to-one meetings with sellers from the northeast region.
A total of 76 foreign buyer delegates from over 29 countries have confirmed attendance namely Australia, Bhutan, Brunei, Canada, China, Cambodia, Cyprus, Fiji, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, USA, UK, Vietnam, Turkey, South Korea.
Besides foreign delegates, 50 domestic stakeholders from the tourism sector from other parts of India and 86 sellers from the northeast will attend.
Representatives of the State Tourism Departments from the northeast will showcase their tourism destinations through exhibits and make presentations, while hosting press conferences during the three-day event.
