BANGKOK, 8 December 2017: Thailand and Korea will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Thailand-Korea relations in 2018, a celebration that will be included in the events calendar of the Thailand Tourism Year.
Korean tourist arrivals to Thailand increased to 1.4 million in 2016 and in the first half of this year visits had already reached 700,000 up 3% on the previous year.
Joint celebrations will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Korea along with promotions to draw more tourists from Korea during the off-peak months of 2018.
Currently, there are around 20 daily flights between the two countries, with services between the two capitals and also to Chiang Mai and Phuket, two popular tourist destinations in Thailand.
Thailand’s tourism promotions in Korea will continue to focus on honeymoon and romance markets, but will also experiment with Muay Thai boxing camp packages.
There are more than 300 Thai boxing camps in Korea and an estimated 30,000 Muay Thai boxing fans. The Muay Thai World Class festival, held in Ayutthaya annually, attracts hundreds of boxing enthusiasts from Korea.
