Lufthansa upgrades Bangkok service

BANGKOK, 8 November 2017: Lufthansa has introduced  its Airbus A380 on daily flights to Bangkok and reintroduced first class for the first time on the Frankfurt-Bangkok route since the 1980s.

The four-class A380 replaces the Boeing 747-400 for the winter timetable that came into effect 29 October.

The change of gauge gives the airline a 35% increase in seats on the route. Most of the capacity will be filled in the winter season with German tourists fleeing the cold winter for Thailand’s sunny beach resorts. But to build more bookings from Thailand’s resident, the airline will have to raise its game as it faces enormous competition from Emirates and Qatar Airways.

The  A380 features first, business, premium economy and economy classes. The phase out of the aging Boeing 747-400 is a welcome move, but it is possible that the airline will change to a smaller aircraft for the summer months. There is no guarantee that the A380 will serve the route year-round. However a return of a Boeing 747 later in 2018 would not sit well with the airline’s loyal Thai customers, particularly in the corporate travel market.

“It is a great pleasure for us to bring the Airbus A380 to Bangkok due to the seasonal demand we see for this market,” said Lufthansa Group Airlines general manager sales Thailand, Vietnam and the Mekong Region, Stefan Molnar, at a media presentation where he introduced the A380 first class product.

The aircraft will carry 509 passengers with just eight seats in first class and 78 seats in business class. Premium economy has 52 seats and economy 371 seats.

  1. All well and good but what about the hopeless so called “Business Class” service from FRA to anywhere in Europe. It is just a glorified Economy, nothing more. Only Finnair and Turkish Airlines offer real Business Class service within Europe. Why don’t other carriers just SCRAP the so called Business Service altogether and lower all the fares?

A VERY disgruntled customer who was cheated and misled by Swiss Air recently in regard to an upgrade from Business to First Class. No reply as yet from Swiss Air, just the usual rubbish lame excuses and NO apology.
In fact I plan to just cash in all my LH points and never ever fly on the LH group if I can. After all Thai flies the Airbus 380 to Frankfurt with infinitely BETTER service in ALL classes.
