India tourism minister appointed

BANGkOK, 15 September 2017. India’s official government news channels confirmed Alphons Kannanthanam has been appointed Minister for Tourism Government of India.

He is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer and was recognised in Time Magazine’s list of 100 Young Global Leaders in 1989.

He worked in the Indian Administration Service until 2006, when he was elected a Member of the Legislative Assembly, from Kanjirappally in Kottayam District of Kerala.

He heads the country’ tourism industry at a time when travel is growing by leaps and bounds. In addition more airline services from important source markets are driving a solid growth in tourism this year.
