Last ditch stand to save PATA meet

LANGKAWI, 14 July 2017: Gaining the attention of Pacific Asia Travel Association members to attend a regional event, on Langkawai island, is proving to be an uphill struggle.

Malaysia’s PATA chapter wants to reintroduce an annual gathering of PATA members from the 10-member nations of ASEAN.

But it is proving to be a challenge to gain the attention of busy PATA members, who are probably overdosing on must-attend travel events.

In a bid to save the show and rustle up support from chapters in neighbouring countries, the organisers have now extended the booking window after the 7 July deadline passed with little success.

The host committee is frantically appealing for PATA chapter members from ASEAN-member countries to register by the end of next week. The event opens with a welcome reception 28 July at Langkawi’s Berjaya Resort.

Registration Fee for the event is USD320 net per person (single occupancy room) or USD210 net per person (twin share accommodation).

A committee member told TTR Weekly: “We are still facing an uphill task getting support and participation from ASEAN chapters and this means we cannot release a list of delegates yet.”

Participants need to sign up for a registration package that includes three nights’ accommodation at the five-star Berjaya Resort with breakfasts, transfers and a welcome dinner.

The package also includes participation at an inter-chapter meet with coffee breaks and lunch on day two, a networking session with Langkawi’s travel industry players with a coffee break on day three.

The programme is rounded off with two half-day tours and dinners on the second (29th) and third day (30th) also included in the package price.

The PATA Malaysia Chapter initiated and organised the first Inter-Chapter networking session with Singapore and Thailand, 5 August, last year, at the Lexis Hibiscus, Port Dickson, Malaysia.

To move the concept forward to establish an annual gathering of PATA chapters in ASEAN, PMC organised the PATA ASEAN Inter-Chapter Meet, 28 to 31 July, in cooperation with tourism authorities on Langkawi Island, Malaysia.

Tentative programme

Day 1, 28 July: Arrival of delegates & transfer to hotel for check-in and the welcome reception and dinner at Laman Padi, Chenang Beach.
