Bangsaen to host marathon

CHONBURI, 12 July 2017: MICE & Communication joins hands with Chonburi’s Saensuk Municipality to organise the “Bangsaen42 Marathon” 19 November, at Bangsaen beach, Chonburi.

The event organiser MICE & Communication’s managing director, Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, said the “Bangsaen42 Marathon” will attract both Thai and international runners.

MICE aims for the event to be certified as an Association of Athletics Federations’ Gold Label Road Race by 2022 and to raise  awareness in line with Asia’s top marathons.

Bangsaen42 Marathon will have a single race distance of 42.195 km rather than offering a variety of races from 10 km to half marathon to appeal to a wider audience.

The route will start from the Beach Road at Bangsaen Heritage Convention Centre to Bangsaen roundabout, then to Chonburi’s new landmark, the 84th Anniversary Bridge. It will pass the Angsila market, the shrine of Nezha’s Tai Tzu, Khao Sam Muk, Laem Tan, and along the beach to the finish line.

Prize money for the winner is THB30,000.

Chonburi Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports director, Channarong Suhongsa, said the event is in line with the province’s policy in organising sport tourism events.

“Bangsaen’s location has strong potential as it is not far from Bangkok.”

Credited as Thailand’s first beach resort many years before Pattaya became popular with foreign tourists, Bangsaen is a coastal resort town,  30 km north of Pattaya.

Registration is now open at www.BANGSAEN42.com. The registration fee is THB1,500.

MICE & Communication was founded in 2003 to organize meetings and seminars. The first race held by the company was Bangsaen21 Half Marathon in 2015, which offered races of three distances; 5, 10 and 21 km.
