More than 2,500 participants from each city were asked to give five lifestyle factors a rating out of five. The five factors covered in the poll questions were: Strength of a city’s gay dating scene, quality of its LGBT nightlife, openness, safety and LGBT rights.
It resulted in a shortlist of the 100 cities with Beijing the lowest scoring 9.14 and Madrid in first place with a score of 23.56 out of a possible maximum of 25.
Nestpick said named the top 10 cities from a list of 100 cities based on polling using social media and other polling tools.
Factors were included in order to recognise that although some cities offer an attractive lifestyle, a lot may still need to be done to protect people from hate crime and to give them equal rights.
National and regional governments provided information on the rights of LGBT citizens and data regarding the safety of the LGBT community.
“It’s no coincidence that the world’s most exciting cities have a strong LGBT communities, contributing much to the openness and prosperity which defines locations such as Madrid, Amsterdam and Berlin,” stated Nestpick managing director Ömer Kücükdere.
