Bike on board for free

BANGKOK, 3 May 2017: Bangkok Airways is offering passengers free cycle transport, across its network until 31 March next year.

It is seen as a major incentive for touring and leisure cyclists who will need a baggage allowance of around 20 kg including their bike.

Bangkok Airways is supporting sports tourism this year mainly marathons, but it is also promoting triathlons and cycle races.

However, most passengers requiring an extra luggage allowance for their cycles are weekend warriors, or leisure cyclists who want to pursue their hobby during a visit to a tourist destination.

The free “Bike on Board” promotion allows passengers to load their bikes as their second piece of luggage at no additional cost. It is limited to one bicycle per passenger.

The bicycle must be collapsible and/or suitably packed in a bike box or custom cycle cases with tires deflated before loading. The box o case dimensions must not exceed 145 x 160 x 110 cm.

The airline says the offer is limited to leisure travel purposes only and not for commercial transport of cycles.

The service will be available until 31 March 2018, on the airline’s entire network, except for sectors that are operated by the smaller ATR aircraft.

In the case of the smaller aircraft, a bike can be carried if the total weight (luggage and bike) does not exceed the check-in allowance. However to be on the safe side cyclists should alert the airline in advance as the load capacity on an ATR is limited possibly at three cycles per flight maximum, or less depending on the route.

Passengers are required to reserve the space for the bicycle 24 hours prior to departure at the Bangkok Airways call centre 1771 or by email:
