Security tightened at airport

BANGKOK, 12 April 2017: The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is working with the Tourist Police Division to increase security during the Songkran holiday and ensure taxis and public transport do not cheat passengers.

Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Pongpanu Svetarundra and commissioner of the Tourist Police Division, Pol Maj Gen Prasert Ngenyuang, confirmed a joint-effort to provide more security services for tourists at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.

Officials will also enforce public transportation laws, especially those relating to meter taxis that must flag down regardless of the nationality of the passenger or the destination.

Violations of public transportation laws can be reported on the hotline 1155 open around the clock.

Pongpanu also encouraged people to dress in Thai outfits and take part in traditional activities associated with the Songkran festival as a cultural expression to keep the traditional elements of the festival alive and appreciated.
