Top of the Gulf Regatta

PATTAYA, 28 March 2017: Top of the Gulf Regatta 2017 will be hosted in Pattaya, 4 to 8 May, for the 13th year in a row at the resort’s Ocean Marina.

Top of the Gulf Regatta is Asia’s largest multi-class regatta that welcomes 250 boats and 700 sailors from 25 countries competing for trophies across a wide range of sailing categories.

Ocean Marina is credited with being the largest marina in Southeast Asia and a centre for yachting and sport activities in Thailand’s Gulf of Thailand.

Top of the Gulf Regatta showcases Pattaya’s potential to become a leading destination for water sports in Asia, as well as a starting point to explore the Gulf of Thailand’s islands.

Pattaya’s major challenge is to gain more media cover for its water and land sports events, such as regattas, a boat show, triathlon and its annual marathon.

Criticised for its ‘anything goes’ night life and a seedy red light district that surrounds the beachside walking street, the resort is the focus of a major police crackdown. Tourism officials remain confident that they can rebuild the resort’s image and the Gulf Regatta, supported by Ocean Marina, is one of the events that could play a role in raising the resort’s profile in a positive context.
