BANGKOK, 16 March 2017: Laguna Phuket Marathon is set to celebrate its 12th year with organisers forecasting more than 7,000 runners from over 40 countries will participate in the June race.
Sanctioned by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, the Laguna Phuket Marathon is held from sunset to sunrise over two days, 3 to 4 June.
Organised by sports management company, Go Adventure Asia, the event uses the latest technology in professional race timing and results supplied by Sportstats Asia.
Runners will compete across five distances – 2 km Kids Run, 5 km Run, 10.5 km Run, Half Marathon (21.097 km) and Marathon (42.195 km).
Close to 2,000 people already registered for Phuket’s top sporting event.
Joining a team of event ambassadors across Asia, Patcharasri “Kalamare” Benjamas was named Thailand Ambassador to encourage more people to run through the #MyFirstTime campaign.
Using the hashtag on social media, runners can share their new experiences with the community and inspire more people to enjoy the health benefits of running. Kalamare will be running #MyFirstTime at Laguna Phuket Marathon in June.
“We are on track for a record turnout this year – registrations are already high and we expect more than 7,000 runners to take part. In addition to a strong domestic turnout, we expect to welcome more international runners than ever before. The attraction of Phuket, the beautiful course and facilities of Laguna Phuket make the event a true destination marathon,” said the event’s organiser Go Adventure Asia’s general manager Roman Floesser.
“Phuket is one of the MICE city that has a well-developed economy and infrastructure, and is capable of hosting incentives and business meetings, as well as international festivals and mega events. Laguna Phuket Marathon has grown continuously over the years and is an excellent showcase of the island’s capability to host large-scale events,” said Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau director exhibitions and events, Jaruwan Suwannasat.
