Lion readies for a fight

BANGKOK, 6 March 2017: Low-cost carrier, Thai Lion Air, will launch its latest domestic route connecting Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) and the northeast town of Khon Kaen starting 17 March with 13 flights weekly.

According to the airline’s website, it will serve the route with a daily flight (SL648). A second flight (SL644) will also operate six weekly flights, (days 1,3,4,5, 6 and 7). Total: 13 flights weekly.

The new route will compete head-on with other low-cost airlines such as Nok Air that operates three daily flights and Thai AirAsia that operates four daily flights.

It also will compete with Thai Smile that operates seven daily services to Khon Kaen from Suvarnabhumi Airport, after it stopped all flights from of its former base at Don Mueang Airport in last January.

Thai Lion Air sells a one-way promotional fare on the Bangkok-Khon Kaen route starting at THB580. The fare includes all charges, free baggage allowance of 15 kg, a sports equipment allowance of 15 kg (cycle or golf bag etc) and seat selection.

In comparison, Thai AirAsia sells an inclusive one-way fare on the Bangkok-Khon Kaen route at THB1,153, Nok Air sells at THB1,260 and Thai Smile at THB1,380.
