VIENTIANE, 22 February 2017: Lao PDR will host the annual Mekong Tourism Forum in Luang Prabang 6 to 9 June adopting the theme, “Prosper with Purpose”.
Last week Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office executive director, Jens Thraenhart, met with Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism officials to finalise details of the two-day programme.
After the official welcome ceremony and morning keynote presentations the event will offer delegates a choice of eight “different tracks with two sessions each in the afternoons.
Thraenhart confirmed sessions so far have been confirmed for an ethno-botanical garden, a river cruise and even a rice field.
“Due to the nature of these experimental and experiential afternoon sessions planned for 7 to 8 June there will be a strict cap on delegate registration,” the MTCO director explained in a recent letter to Mekong region partners.
On the opening day of the MTF, the first ever Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism (MIST) programme will be launched.
Known as MIST, the programme was opened for applications, 13 February, for tourism startups based in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
In addition to startups, established companies outside of the three countries that want to open a new venture in the Mekong Region are eligible for consideration. Successful candidates will gain expert advice and and a chance to win grants. Applications close 19 March for MIST.
