Thai airports close 2016 ahead

BANGKOK, 30 January 2017: Airports of Thailand reports strong increases in both aircraft movements and passenger traffic at the six airports under its management during December last year.

Passenger traffic was up 8.88% from 10,353,665, when compared with the same month in 2015.

inside no 1Overall, aircraft movements also increased by 7.59% from 66,615 to 71,670.

For the entire year, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport welcomed 55.89 million passengers followed by Don Mueang with 35.20 million and Phuket 15.10 million. Chiang Mai Airport handled 9.44 million passengers.

December highlights   

Suvarnabhumi Airport registered a slight increase of 1.07% in international aircraft movements from 22,059 to 22,296, while domestic movements grew 12.25% from 6,512 to 7,310 movements.

International passenger traffic increased 2.62% from 4,063,896 to 4,170,453, while domestic passengers grew 18.45% from 825,298 to 977,605. Overall, it accounted for a 5.29% increase in passengers from 4,889,194 to 5,148,058.

The second aviation gateway, Don Mueang Airport, recorded a 0.88% decline in international aircraft movements from 6,335 to 6,279. Domestic movements posted an improvement of 11.68% from 14,079 to 15,723.

International passenger traffic increased 3.34% from 961,742 to 993,906, while domestic passengers increased 12.65% from 1,919,166 to 2,161,933.

Chiang Mai International Airport continued to show growth in December. International aircraft movements registered an increase of 6.19% (1,535 to 1,630), while domestic aircraft movements increased 14.37% (4,302 to 4,920).

International passenger traffic  improved slightly by 0.65% from 190,675 to 191,914, while domestic traffic gained 14.70% from 640,669 to 734,846.

Phuket International Airport registered an increase of 5.23% in international aircraft movements from 4,337 to 4,564, while domestic aircraft movements improved 19.63% from 3,999 to 4,784.

International passenger traffic increased 12.56% from 706,853 to 795,626, while domestic improved 17.13% from 548,256 to 642,158.

Chiang Rai International Airport reported an improvement of 19.38% of overall aircraft movements from 1,295 to 1,546, while passenger traffic grew 24.54% from                184,396 to 229,646.

Hat Yai International Airport reported an overall aircraft movements improved 21.09% from 2,162 to 2,618 in December. Meanwhile, overall passenger traffic registered a 19.91% increase from 312,714 to 374,970 passengers.inside-no-11
