International Yoga Day

NEW YORK, 22 June 2017: Thousands of yoga aficionados celebrated the summer solstice amid the neon lights and cacophony of Times Square, Wednesday, searching for inner peace in the heart of New York on International Yoga Day.

“I have always wanted to come to yoga in Times Square. This year I retired so now I can,” said 62-year-old former school principal Kathy Gaffney, who took the ferry bright and early from Staten Island to get a good place in line.

Around 12,000 people were expected to take part in six one-hour yoga classes beginning at 0730 (1130 GMT) to celebrate the official start of summer and the longest day of the year. The event is now in its 15th year. Read more

Yoga to play a role in tourism

PHNOM PENH, 10 July 2015: Cambodia plans to establish a Yoga Federation to tap the popular meditative exercise and offer a wider range of services to support tourism.

Phnom Penh Post quoted Tourism Minister Thong Khon saying that the government will work with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia to establish a Yoga Federation to help promote yoga in tourism.

“The federation will support the tourism sector,” he said.

Cambodia taps Yoga

PHNOM PENH, 7 July 2015: Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism will support Yoga classes at tourist destinations to enhance the tourist experience in the country.

Tourism Minister, Thong Khon,  told local media that the country should tap Yoga, which is a healthy practice and increase options for tourists to enjoy and learn something new during their visit.
