World Expo 2020: Ayutthaya ready for battle

BANGKOK, 10 May 2011-Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and Ayutthaya province say they are ready to present a host bid for World Expo 2020 under the theme of “Balanced Life, Sustainable Living – Let’s Redefine Globalisation”.
TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva signed off on an declaration that confirms Ayutthaya as the venue city for Thailand’s bid to host World Expo 2020, last week, based on an earlier Cabinet decision.
Thailand will present a bid in 2012 that will propose the World Expo be hosted in Ayutthaya, 15 January to 15 June, 2020. Read more

BANGKOK, 8 April 2011- Ayutthaya has gained the green light as the venue city for Thailand’s bid to host World Expo 2020.
The Cabinet approved the decision, Tuesday, and cleared the way for a Bt300 million budget to campaign in support of the bid.
Ayutthaya was selected ahead of Chonburi (Pattaya) and Chiang Mai mainly due to its proximity to Bangkok and convenient transport links.

BANGKOK, 13 January 2011 – The Bureau of International Expositions general secretary, Vincente Gonzales Loscertales, visited Ayutthaya province, yesterday, to inspect the readiness of the province to bid for World Expo 2020.
BIE general secretary, Vincente Gonzales Loscertales, said Thailand presented several advantages in the bid process including its food culture, history and tourism infrastructure.
However, he stated the real challenge was to communicate with local residents so they understood the benefit of hosting a global expo and ensuring the theme would interest both domestic and international tourists.

BANGKOK, 10 January 2011 – Bureau of International Expositions’ general secretary, Vincente Gonzales Loscertales, arrived in Bangkok today for a five-day site inspection of Ayutthaya, Chon Buri (Pattaya) and Chiang Mai in advance of Thailand’s official bid presentation to host World Expo 2020.
Ayutthaya, Chon Buri or Chiang Mai must beat 15 other cities in nine countries to host the World Expo 2020. They include Manila, Brisbane, Copenhagen, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo, Montreal, San Francisco, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Guangzhou, and a city in South Africa.

BANGKOK, 10 January 2011 – Tourism Authority of Thailand hopes to lure pageant contesters from East Europe as a strategy to generate publicity in source markets.
The latest pageant group includes 12 finalists from Slovakia along with a TV crew. They will be in Thailand until 21 January and spend time in Bangkok, Samut Prakarn, Pattaya, Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi.
TCEB takes next step to World Expo bid

BANGKOK, 3 November 2010 – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau announced yesterday that it has selected AECOM Company to conduct in-depth research on three potential venues for the World Expo bid.
TCEB confirmed its decision to bid for World Expo in 2020 during the Shanghai World Expo last September.
Now it says in-depth research on three sites – Ayutthaya, Chon Buri and Chiang Mai – will be carried out by AECOM, a company that assisted Canada to win the bid for World Expo 2017 and London in its bid for the Olympic Games 2012.

BANGKOK, 14 September, 2010 – TCEB will conduct a detailed feasibility study in cities short-listed as potential venues for Thailand’s World Expo 2020 bid, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president, Akapol Sorasuchart reported Monday.
The short-listed provinces are Chon Buri, Chiang Mai and Ayutthaya, identified in Thailand’s intention to bid statement made by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva during his visit to World Expo in Shanghai, 5 September.
TCEB must complete its study within 120 days and its findings will be used to select the winning province.
California will bid for Expo 2020
SHANGHAI, 12 September, 2010 – California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a visit Sunday to the Shanghai Expo that his state would bid to host the 2020 World Expo in the technology hub of Silicon Valley.
“As the hub of innovation, Silicon Valley is the most natural place to hold the Expo, which will promote the international exchange of ideas, create jobs and increase revenues in our state,” Schwarzenegger said.
Thailand announced its intention to bid for Expo 2020, during the Prime Minister’s visit to Shanghai late last month.

BANGKOK, 7 September, 2010 – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed Thailand’s intention to bid for World Expo 2020 during his official tour the Shanghai World Expo, Sunday.
Following Cabinet approval of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau’s proposal to host World Expo 2020, the Thai premier expressed optimism that Thailand would forward a comprehensive bid document to the Bureau of International Expositions by the second half of next year.

BANGKOK, Thailand’s, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will officially announce Thailand’s intention to bid for World Expo 2020 during his tour of World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, 5 September.
The Cabinet approved the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau’s proposal to host World Expo 2020, at its weekly meeting last Tuesday.
It assigned deputy prime minister, Sanan Kachornprasart, to coordinate with TCEB to select a host city which will involve a detailed feasibility study of the three short-listed provinces; Ayutthaya, Chon Buri and Chiang Mai to be submitted within120 days. The study will be paid for out of TCEB’s annual budget and identify a single candidate city.
