TCEB asks for Bt300 million

BANGKOK, 28 December 2011: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau says it will ask for Bt300 million for the fiscal year 2012/2013 to support its World Expo 2020 bid.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said the bureau is working with the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish the budget that would kick-in 1 October 2012 at the start of the new fiscal year.

“Due to a disastrous floods the government cut our budget by 20% including the World Expo campaign budget to divert funds for flood rehabilitation.” Read more

TCEB backs Ayutthaya

BANGKOK, 8 December 2011:  The Ayutthaya World Expo 2020 bid is still on track and there are no plans to change the proposed city in bid presentations to the Bureau of International Exhibitions, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau reports.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, was commenting on concerns that Ayutthaya could face equally damaging floods in the future warranting a change in the proposed venue for the 2020 expo.

Thailand could change the proposed venue in its bid presentation, but it is now very unlikely based on TCEB’s statements. Read more

World expo bid still on track

BANGKOK, 18 October 2011 – Thailand’s bid to host World Expo 2020 remains on track despite serious flooding that has inundated most of Ayutthaya province for almost a month.

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president Akapol Sorasuchart gave the assurances, Monday, when asked if this year’s flooding would prompt a rethink on the venue linked to the country’s bid to host the 2020 expo.

“ We don’t think the flood will impact on our bid,” said. “The proposed expo site near the Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre has suffered little flooding.” Read more

TCEB champions world expo bid

BANGKOK, 23 August 2011 – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau launched its latest campaign “World Expo 2020: Believe in Thailand”, last week to build public awareness for the bid.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said it was important to raise public awareness and understanding, nationwide, and unite the Thai people to support this event in Ayutthaya.

TCEB showcases World Expo pavilion

BANGKOK, 12 August 2011 – Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau will use the BOI Fair 2011, 10 to 21 November, to showcase its proposed World Expo 2020 pavilion.

The fair will be held at Impact Muang Thong Thani and TCEB hopes it can build public support for its bid to host the mega event.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said the launch of the Expo 2020 pavilion at BOI Fair 2011 would showcase Thailand’s candidacy and capability to host the World Expo 2020. Read more

TCEB: No changes to World Expo bid

BANGKOK, 29 June 2011 – Thailand tourism will not suffer from a government decision to withdraw from World Heritage Convention membership, according to Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president, Akapol Sorasuchart.

He was commenting on the 26 June decision to resign from the WHC, at a media briefing Monday, claiming the country did not rely just on World Heritage status to promote cultural tourism.

Fielding questions on the world heritage status of Ayutthaya designated as the bid city for World Expo 2020, he noted there was no change in status and the decision to resign would not adversely impact on the bid process.

World Exp bid in the pipeline

BANGKOK, 23 June 2011 – Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau presented it readiness to host World Expo 2020 documents earlier this month to the 149th general assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibitions in Paris, France.

Late last year the government presented its intention to host the event and earlier this year selected Ayutthaya, 75 km north of the Thai capital as the designated bid site.

At the 14 June general assemby, TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said Thailand presented its “readiness to host” documents to 157 BIE members in the lead up to the final selection that will be concluded in 2014 with an announcement of the successful site. Read more

World Expo 2020: Ayutthaya ready for battle

BANGKOK, 10 May 2011-Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and Ayutthaya province say they are ready to present a host bid for World Expo 2020 under the theme of “Balanced Life, Sustainable Living – Let’s Redefine Globalisation”.

TCEB president, Akapol Sorasuchart, said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva signed off on an declaration that confirms Ayutthaya as the venue city for Thailand’s bid to host World Expo 2020, last week, based on an earlier Cabinet decision.

Thailand will present a bid in 2012  that will  propose the World Expo be hosted in Ayutthaya,  15 January to 15 June, 2020. Read more

Ayutthaya to lead World Expo bid

BANGKOK, 8 April 2011- Ayutthaya has gained the green light as the venue city for Thailand’s bid to host World Expo 2020.

The Cabinet approved the decision, Tuesday, and cleared the way for a Bt300 million budget to campaign in support of the bid.

Ayutthaya was selected ahead of Chonburi (Pattaya) and Chiang Mai mainly due to its proximity to Bangkok and convenient transport links.

World Expo chief visits bid sites

BANGKOK, 13 January 2011 – The Bureau of International Expositions general secretary, Vincente Gonzales Loscertales, visited Ayutthaya province, yesterday, to inspect the readiness of the province to bid for World Expo 2020.

BIE general secretary, Vincente Gonzales Loscertales, said Thailand presented several advantages in the bid process including its food culture, history and tourism infrastructure.

However, he stated the real challenge was to communicate with local residents so they understood the benefit of hosting a global expo and ensuring the theme would interest both domestic and international tourists.
