Winter Olympics ticket sales suffer

SEOUL, 6 September 2017: Online ticket sales for next year’s Winter Olympics opened in South Korea, Tuesday, with organisers admitting far fewer places had so far been sold than previously implied and concerns growing over North Korea’s nuclear antics.

The 2018 Pyeongchang Games will take place in a country with a limited winter sports tradition and far from the core markets of Europe and North America — making local attendance crucial to ensuring the grandstands are full.

But in the first phase of South Korean sales earlier this year, organisers offered 162,000 tickets in an application lottery — just over a quarter of their 600,000 target. Read more

Finnair tweaks Asian services

BANGKOK, 23 June 2017: Finnair will upgrade its winter season services from Helsinki to Phuket and Krabi, in South Thailand, from Airbus A330 to A350 aircraft.

Flights operate from 9 October to late March 2018. The airline will offer three flights weekly to Phuket and two flights weekly to Krabi.

The flight to Krabi will depart Helsinki at 1915 and arrive at 1030 the following mornings. Departures are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Read more

Hong Kong’s winter a fairytale

HONG KONG, 27 November 2015: Hong Kong Tourism Board is hosting the Hong Kong WinterFest promotion  throughout December to the first week of January.

Projecting the destination as a romantic, “fairytale-inspired” destination for young and family visitors, the first events and promotions rolled out,earlier this month, while major fest attractions continue to 5 January.
