SINGAPORE, 27 September 2017: Travel in Asia Pacific is not showing any signs of slowing down, with the region dominating visitor arrivals once again, according to the Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index 2017, released Tuesday.

The proof is also in the travel spend with Asia Pacific destinations tracking the highest amount of international overnight visitor spend among its top 10 cities. Bringing in USD91.16 billion in travel expenditure in 2016, Asia Pacific outpaced Europe (USD74.74 billion), and North America (USD55.02 billion).

Ranking the world’s 132 top destination cities, the Index studied visitor volume and spend for the 2016 calendar year and provided a forecast for annual growth, insights on the fastest growing destination cities, and a deeper understanding of why people travel and how they spend around the world. Singapore’s hotel rates down

LONDON, 14 September 2017; Singapore’s hotels continued to enjoy occupancy growth in August, but at lower rates, STR’s preliminary August data revealed.

Based on daily data for August, Singapore reported year-over-year comparisons that showed room supply had increased by 1.5% and consumer demand grew 3.2%

Singapore hotels enjoyed an average occupancy growth of 1.7% to reach 85.9% across total room capacity. Read more

Thai tourist tally positive

BANGKOK, 21 July 2017: Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports international visits exceeded 17.32 million, January to June, a slight increase of 4.41% when compared with the first half of 2016.

Released Monday, the ministry’s data showed the country attracted 17,323,640 international visits compared to 16,591,904 visits during the same period last year.

The data is based on foreign passports, or ID holders, passing through international checkpoints (land, sea and air). Read more

Thailand’s most popular parks

BANGKOK, 17 July 2017: Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation reports park visits reached over 15.3 million during October 2016 to June 2017.

Released last Thursday, the department’s figures showed 15,327,573 visitors visited 150 national parks nationwide and generated THB1,866,521,223 in revenue during October 2016 to June 2017.

Of all visits, 10,874,487 were by Thais and 4,453,086 by foreigners, who pay more than double the price to enter parks. In terms of revenue, the two markets are almost on par. Read more

Thailand’s Q1 tourism looks bright

BANGKOK, 31 March 2017: Thailand estimates revenue from its booming tourism industry increased by 4% during the past six months.

Quoting figures based on data covering October 2016 through to 27 March, this year, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports claimed tourism generated THB1.33 trillion in revenue.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul told a briefing, earlier this week, that foreign tourists generated revenue of THB860 billion with the balance earned from domestic tourism. Read more

Cambodia monitors travel growth

PHNOM PENH, 23 March 2017: Cambodia’s tourist arrivals improved 14.2% in January this year, according to the Statistics and Tourist Information Department.

Released by the Ministry of Tourism, Tuesday, the data showed the country welcomed 532,206 international travellers in January compared to 466,086 during the same month last year.

China led the supply markets with 80,407 visits up 20.4% from 66,764 visits during the same month in 2016. Read more

Cambodia targets 5.4 m tourists

PHNOM PENH, 2 March 2017: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen projects the country could welcome as many as 5.4 million international tourists this year.

Agence Kampuchea Presses quoted the PM saying Cambodia saying he was confidence the country could attract up to 5.4 million foreign arrivals in 2017. He called it a positive target that is achievable as long as the country remains stable.

Visits could reach 7 million by 2020, earning an estimated revenue of around USD5 billion and generating some 1 million direct jobs. Read more

Singapore hits a record

SINGAPORE, 16 February 2017: Singapore’s tourist visitor receipts surpassed earlier forecasts to hit historical highs in 2016, Singapore Tourism Board reported Tuesday.

While visits grew by 7.7% to 16.4 million, tourism receipts rose even higher by 13.9% to SGD24.8 billion.

The strong tourism receipt results came on the back of visitors spending more on food and beverage, shopping and accommodation. Read more

Thai tourism grows 9.7%

BANGKOK, 27 December 2016: Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports international visits to Thailand exceeded 29.53 million, an improvement of 9.78% during January to November this year.

Released last week, the ministry’s data showed the country attracted 29,530,503 international visits during the first 11 months of this year, compared to 26,898,894 visits during the same period last year.

The data is based on foreign passport, or ID holders, passing through international checkpoints (land, sea and air). Read more

Thai Ministry reports more visits

BANGKOK, 22 November 2016: Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports international visits to Thailand exceeded 24.82 million, up 12.37% during January to September this year.

Released Monday, the ministry’s data showed the country attracted 24,820,182 international visits during the first nine months of this year, compared to 22,086,976 visits during the same period last year.

The data is based on foreign passport and  ID holders (overland travel from neighbouring countries), passing through international checkpoints. Read more
