VIENTIANE, 24 November 2017: Just weeks after the official launch of the Visit Laos Year 2018, details remain sketchy on events created specifically to mark  this special year.

Visit Laos Year 2018 was officially launched by Prime Minister, Thongloun Sisoulith,  late October at Vientiane’s That Luang Stupa.

The famous That Luang festival with a trade fair,  displaying traditional house, cultural performances and religious ceremonies at the That Luang Stupa set the stage for the start of the tourism year. Read more

Grand launch for visit year

BANGKOK, 17 November 2017: The Tourism Authority of Thailand kicked off, Thursday, its ambitious “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018” campaign with a spectacular procession through the heart of Bangkok.

The opening ceremony, held at Siam Discovery Mall, was presided over by General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.

The aim of the campaign is to support sustainable, quality tourism in line with the government’s sufficiency economy philosophy. Read more

Early bird campaign for Visit Year 2020

LONDON, 10 November 2017: Malaysia introduced  early bird information on its up-coming Visit Malaysia Year 2020, during the World Travel Market earlier this week.

Fielding a 130-strong delegation led by Minister of Tourism and Culture, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, it marked the country’s 34th year of participation at the show.

Commenting on efforts to forge links with Europe’s tour operators the minister said: “This year’s WTM participation is particularly special as we are making early preparations for the Visit Malaysia Year 2020.” Read more

Visit Year to revive Lao tourism

VIENTIANE, 28 June 2017: Laos is preparing to launch its “Visit Laos Year 2018” to promote the tourism industry and revive interest in the country at a time when visits are declining.

Lao News Agency quoted Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism’s Tourism Marketing Department general director, Sounh Manivong, said the Visit Laos Year 2018 launch would take place this November to coincide with the That Luang festival.

Well-known celebrations in each province of Laos will be highlighted at the launch ceremony including the Blossom Festival in Bokeo, the Elephant Festival in Sayaboury, and the Lao New Year celebration in Luang Prabang. Read more

Laos calls for Visit Year events

VIENTIANE, 8 February 2017: Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has called on all tourism agencies to urgently prepare activities for inclusion in Visit Laos Year 2018 calendar.

Vientiane Times quoted the ministry saying promotions for Visit Laos Year should begin in earnest this year.

Tourism minister, Bosengkham Vongdara, said a timetable of monthly events in every province needs to be compiled urgently to show visitors the special features they can enjoy during 2018. Read more

ASEAN visit year planned

BANGKOK, 1 July 2015: Association of Thai Travel Agents says an ASEAN Visit Year will be launched in 2017 to attract travel between the 10 country members.

ATTA vice president, Mingkwan Metmowlee, said according to a recent ASEANTA meeting ASEAN member countries agreed to cooperate more to build tourist arrivals and a Visit Year was one project that could unite their marketing efforts.

“The meeting agreed that in 2017, ASEAN will launch a Visit ASEAN Year campaign to promote the region especially a single visa policy,” she said encouraging the association members to build regional travel packages and tourism products to support the campaign.

Fun in the Philippines

NAY PYI TAW, 28 January 2015: The Philippines officially launched its Visit Philippines Year, Tuesday evening, during the ASEAN Tourism Forum.

Under-secretary for tourism development, Benito Bengzon, announced details of the year-long calendar of events earlier in the day at a media briefing at Nay Pyi Taw’s international convention centre on the eve of the opening of the ATF’s TRAVEX travel mart.

“The government will speed up airport improvements, make Manila easier to visit and the VPY will give visitors a spread of fun events,” he said at the press briefing.”
