Trump signs aviation deals in Vietnam

HANOI, 13 November 2017: Vietnam and the United States signed a series of energy and aviation deals Sunday during a visit to Hanoi by US president Donald Trump, who railed against Washington’s yawning trade deficit with the fast-growing nation.

Trump was in the communist capital at the tail-end of his swing through Asia where he has promoted his “America First” mantra on global trade — prioritising “fair” bilateral deals over sprawling multilateral pacts.

Several agreements were signed during his state visit Sunday, including those covering the natural gas sector, transport and aviation. Read more

Vietjet to add Thai services

BANGKOK, 3 November 2017: VietJet Air has confirmed it will launch nonstop services to Chiang Mai and Phuket from its Ho Chi Minh City home base this December.

According to timetable details, released by Airlineroute for the winter timetable 2017/18, the nonstop service to Phuket will start 15 December with four weekly services on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The Ho Chi Minh City-Chiang Mai route will be served by four weekly flights starting 12 December. Read more

Vietjet inks deal with Qatar Airways

HO CHI MINH CITY, 17 October 2017: Vietjet and Qatar Airways have entered into a two-phase interline partnership that kicked off in September by allowing Qatar Airways’ passengers to travel to and from points in Vietnam and Taiwan using connecting services on Vietjet.

The second phase will extend the interline partnership to allow Vietjet’s passengers to connect with Qatar flights to  more than 150 points, worldwide, served by Qatar Airways using a single reservation across both of the airlines’ networks.

It will include passengers flying domestic services in Vietnam on Vietjet to connect with Qatar Airways’ services to Doha out of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Read more

Vietjet adds second Yangon route

SINGAPORE, 29 August 2017:  Vietjet will launch a new international route, 31 August, linking Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city,  with Yangon in Myanmar.

The flight will depart daily from Hanoi at 1205 (local time) and arrive in Yangon at 1305.

The return leg will depart at 1430 and arrive in Hanoi at 1655. Read more

PG flits to Phu Quoc

BANGKOK, 16 August 2017: Bangkok Airways will launch a new service, 29 October, between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, a holiday island off the southern coast of Vietnam.

According to the airline’s website, the new route will operate with four weekly flights using the small turbo-prop 70-seat ATR72-600.

The airline will be the first Thai carrier fly to the destination, but it likely to face tough competition when its low-cost airlines based in Thailand start services using the bigger more comfortable Boeing 737s and A320s. Read more

Vietjet inks partnership with JAL

BANGKOK, 27 July 2017: Japan Airlines and Vietjet signed a formal partnership agreement, earlier this week, starting with codeshare flights and extending to other areas impacting on passenger services.

The two airlines concluded an agreement after discussions on expanding their networks to respond to growing travel demand between the two countries.

As a first step, JAL and Vietjet agreed to start  codeshare cooperation for all flights between Japan and Vietnam as well as JAL’s domestic flights, and Vietjet’s domestic flights. Read more

Cat Bai poised for expansion

HAI PHONG, 17 May 2017: The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has approved a project to construct a second terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong province.

Local media reported the plan would help to meet growing passenger traffic at the airport, which is expected to reach 8 million a year by 2025.

The CAAV said initial procedures to commence Terminal 2 construction could begin as soon and involve an investment plan presented by Vietjet that is pending final approval. Read more

Vietjet to invest in airport

QUANG NAM, 10 October 2016: Vietjet is seeking Ministry of Transport approval to invest USD896.8 million to upgrade Chu Lai airport in the central province of Quang Nam to transform it into a hub.

Saigon Times media said Vietjet was keen to upgrade the Chu Lai airport in three phases to meet the airline’s development strategy.

The first phase would lengthen the runway to 3,250 metres and widen it to 65 metres a task that would not be completed until 2020. Read more

Vietjet president on power list

SINGAPORE, 16 June 2016: Vietjet Aviation president and CEO, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, has been named in Forbes’ World’s  list of the 100 most powerful women.

The US business magazine identifies the world’s most successful women and includes business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists and philanthropists.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is Vietnam’s first woman to be featured in the list and was placed number 62 overall. Read more
