BANGKOK, 23 September 2016: The Tourism Authority of Thailand will launch travel experiences in four provinces using traditional local vehicles, Monday, 26 September.

The initiative is designed to breathe new life into some of the well-worn travel experiences, by focusing on modes of transport that have a historical connection to the selected tourist destinations.

Although present in most rural towns, the Tuk Tuk is synonymous with travel in the tourist districts of Bangkok, even though the fares are higher than a meter taxi. They are photogenic and an icon for those who want to squeeze through the Thai capital’s famed traffic jams. Read more

Royal Projects woo tourists

BANGKOK, 13 June 2016: Tourism Authority of Thailand highlighted Chiang Mai’s local tourism products over the weekend, by organising fam trips for international media who attended the Thailand Travel Mart last week.

The main focus was on the province’s Royal Projects that underscore the country’s efforts to introduce community-based tourism.

Nong Hoi Royal Project Development Centre coordinator, Siriporn Chansuwan, told TTR Weekly that tourism agencies like Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau have made promoting royal projects a priority. Read more

Tuk-Tuk: What a beauty

BANGKOK, 23 December 2015: A Tuk-Tuk costume won the day for Miss Universe Thailand 2015, Aniporn Chalermburanawong, who took home the Best National Costume Award at the Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, last week.

Aniporn or “Nat,” the 21-year-old contestant from Lampang, also advanced to the last 10 of the pageant’s finalists.

TAT partly sponsored the creation of the dress as part of its strategy to promote Thailand’s tourism. The dress’ creator, Hirankrit Pattaraboriboonkul, took the inspiration from one of the most iconic symbols of Bangkok streets and incorporated it with engineering precision, 3D imaging technology, and high fashion couture craftsmanship to create the winning national costume. AccorHotels sponsors solar tuk tuk

BANGKOK, 9 July 2015: AccorHotels, Asia-Pacific, is sponsoring the travels of a solar-powered tuk tuk taxi on a journey from Bangkok to Toulouse in France.

The Pilgreens project, led by three graduate students from the University of Toulouse, will raise awareness and potential of green energy transportation in developing countries.

The journey will span 119 days across 16 countries and over 20,000 kilometres on a tuk-tuk equipped with two electric batteries and a solar panel.
