TUI summer sales lift spirits

FRANKFURT, 16 August 2017: German travel group TUI confirmed a bright outlook for its full financial year as summer bookings lifted the mood following a net loss in the first half.

TUI, whose business year runs from October to September, reported a net profit of 47.7 million euros (USD56 million) between April and June, a fall of some 45% compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, operating, or underlying profit grew 37.2% to 221.6 million euros on an adjusted basis, on the back of revenues up 12.6% at almost 4.8 billion. Read more

TUI sells Hapag Lloyd

FRANKFURT, 17 July 2017: German tourism giant TUI said last week it has sold its remaining stake in the shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd, the final stage of a restructuring towards mass-market tourism.

The Hanover-based tour operator raised around 250 million euros (USD284.6 million) after selling 8.5 million shares. It followed TUI’s sale of around six million shares since last March.

The sale means “we have successfully completed selling off all the companies and holdings unrelated to the core activity of the group,” TUI finance director Horst Baier said in a statement. Read more

TUI weathers headwinds

FRANKFURT, 16 December 2016: German tourism giant TUI announced last week that it has defied worldwide headwinds for travel firms caused by terrorism and political instability to report solid results for 2015 to 2016, driven by its cruises and hotels.

“We’ve managed to detach ourselves from the global trends in the sector,” chief executive Fritz Joussen said in a statement.

The group based in Hanover and listed on the London stock exchange booked profits attributable to shareholders of 1.04 billion euros (USD1.12 billion), almost three times higher than in 2014 to 2015. Read more

TUI packages Phu Quoc holidays

KIEN GIANG, 8 November 2016: TUI Nordic, a  tour operator and charter airline based in Stockholm, Sweden, plans to launch nonstop flights to Phu Quoc island, in December.

Local media reported the airline’s maiden flight to Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island located close to Cambodia will depart Sweden, 18 December, using a Boeing Dreamliner.

TUI Nordic will pre-sell seats as part of a tour packages for the weekly flight through to 2 April 2017. Read more

TUI and Etihad plan new group

FRANKFURT, 6 October 2016: German airline Air Berlin said, Wednesday, it would discuss transferring part of its fleet to a new group founded by package tour giant TUI and Gulf carrier Etihad as part of a major overhaul.

Air Berlin will discuss bringing 35 of its aircraft, including 14 already leased from TUI subsidiary TUIfly, into a “new airline group to be founded by the TUI group and Etihad”, it said in a statement.

The plans remain subject to negotiation and regulatory approval, the statement continued. Read more
