TAT will get tough on missing buyers

BANGKOK, 13 June 2011—Tourism Authority of Thailand will assess the performance of buyers at Thailand Travel Mart and blacklist buyers who no-showed for their appointments.
TAT governor, Suraphon Svetasreni told TTR Weekly a team of TAT’s top executives — the governor, deputy governors for Asia and South Pacific, Sansern Ngaorangsri and for Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas, Juthaporn Rerngronasa would evaluate the outcome of the travel show and discuss changes in direction for next year possibly in time to table proposals at the board meeting 27 June.
TTM buyer brash about selling
BANGKOK, 10 June 2011 – A siren over the booth should have gone off when a Thailand Travel Mart buyer started selling his wares to TTM exhibitors known as sellers in popular travel mart parlance.
It didn’t because most hoteliers have learned to ignore inappropriate behaviour. It’s one of the downsides of travel marts. It begs the question, just who is a buyer and a seller these days?
But there was no doubt in my mind that the guy sitting right across from me at one of the mart’s coffee corner tables was a buyer. He had a badge to prove it and he sat down sighing like a senior citizen claiming he was bushed; walked off his poor feet such was the pressure of doing the buyer’s rounds at the TTM. Read more
Veteran Thai agent launches own firm

BANGKOK, 10 June 2011 – Counting on a few superlatives to catch buyer interest, veteran travel executive, Viraj Chimprasert, introduced his six month old inbound travel agency at the TTM Thursday.
Mr Viraj established Absolutely Fantastic Holidays last January after almost 40 years working for World Travel Services heading its inbound tour operations.
He branched out with his own company employing 10 staff who offer full leisure travel services to international tour operators and incentive travel options for corporations. Read more
TAT hosts seminar on Japanese market

BANGKOK, 7 June 2011 – Tourism Authority of Thailand will organise a workshop for Japanese travel agents and media during the Thailand Travel Mart, 10 June, at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.
Organised jointly by TAT East Asia Region, private companies, China Airlines, Thai Airways International, Thai-Japan Tourist Association, Thai Travel Agents Association and Thai Hotels Association the event should attract 160 representatives from the Thailand’s tourism industry with links to the Japanese outbound and inbound markets.
TAT has also invited 52 buyers from Japan to attend the business discussion and product briefing. TAT hopes to improve Japanese arrivals by10% this year.
Golden Tulip promotes at TTM

BANGKOK, 3 June 2011 – Golden Tulip will join Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2011, 8 to 10 June, at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani for the second year running to promote four properties of which two will join the group later this year.
The two new properties due to join the group are: Golden Tulip Madison Suites Bangkok (118 rooms), scheduled to open this July and Golden Tulip Samudra Hua Hin (100 rooms), scheduled to open this September.
Golden Tulip already has two properties fully operational in Thailand. Read more
TTM concludes registration

BANGKOK, 11 May 2011 – Thailand Travel Mart Plus Amazing Gateway to Mekong Sub-region 2011 has 367 sellers and 347 buyers on its books, but participation from neighbouring countries has declined.
The show will be held at Bangkok’s Impact Challenger Hall, Muang Thong Thani, 8 to 10 June.
Tourism Authority of Thailand, the event’s organiser, reported earlier this week the show had attracted 78 sellers and 136 buyers, registered as first-time participants at TTM. Read more
Ecotourism group want to green the TTM

BANGKOK, 25 April 2011 – Green tourism will be a theme at Thailand Travel Mart Plus Amazing Gateway to the Greater Mekong Sub-region 2011, due to be held 8 to 10 June at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.
Thailand Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association president, Duangkamol Chansuriyawong, told TTR Weekly that the association was planning a dedicated section based on TAT’s final approval. The dedicated exhibition area would communicate information about greening and sustaining tourism in Thailand.
“TEATA will have a booth at TTM to publicise eco-tourism as usual, but since this year’s event is themed Caring for the Earth, then green tourism should be clearly highlighted at the show,” said Ms Duangkamol.
Tussauds debuts in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 7 September 2010 – A clone of the popular London attraction, Madam Tussauds, will open in Bangkok 4 December at a site in Siam Discovery, close to the city’s Siam BTS interchange .
The Bangkok attraction will be the 10th under the Madame Tussauds brand, featuring 70 wax figures of famous Asian and international personalities.
Sales wise, the management is making its debut at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2010 due to open this Wednesday at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.
TAT sets new date for TTM

BANGKOK 26 May, 2010 — Tourism Authority of Thailand has rescheduled the trade event, Thailand Travel Mart Plus Amazing Gateway to the Greater Mekong Subregion to 8 to 10 September.
Originally, TTM+ 2010 was scheduled for 2 to 4 June but TAT was forced to postpone the event last week due to mass cancellations of hosted buyers, largely due to political violence that ended 19 May.
The rescheduled event will be held at Impact Muang Thong Thani in the northern suburbs of Bangkok.
TAT postpones TTM

BANGKOK, 24 May 2010 — Tourism Authority of Thailand announced, last Friday, that it has postponed the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2010, scheduled for 2 to 4 June, due to mass cancellations of hosted buyers, but has so far not indentified replacement dates.
It hopes to reschedule the event later this year, but that will depend on discussions with the private sector due to take place tomorrow.
TAT deputy governor for Europe, Africa, Middle East and the Americas, Jutaporn Roengronasa, said the decision to call off the TTM+ 2010 at the last minute was made after deliberations with private sector associations such as the Association of Thai Travel Agents, Tourism Council of Thailand and Thai Hotels Association.
