TTAA rolls out 10th fair

BANGKOK, 2 February 2011: Now in its 10th edition the popular Thai International Travel Fair will open 23 February at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

Thai Travel Agents Association reports the four-day show will have 1,110 registered booths mainly promoting travel deals and holidays to the consumer market.

They represent hotels, tour operators, national tourism office, airlines, car rentals and tourist attractions.

Oh Summer on the fair agenda

BANGKOK, 24 August 2011 – On the back of a successful fair, last weekend, Thai Travel Agents Association says it has closed 75% of booth sales for its next major event scheduled for February 2012

TTAA experimented with two fairs this year adding last week’s four-day show to boost outbound travel bookings during the last quarter.

It now says it can sustain two annual shows a year as the country’s outbound travel market expands on a stronger Thai baht and the presence of more airlines offering deals in the local market. Read more

VisitBerlin looks to new markets

BANGKOK, 22 August 2011 – VisitBerlin, hopes to increase arrivals from Southeast Asia especially once the German capital opens a new international airport next year, VisitBerlin’s sales director, Ralf Ostendorf, reported last week at the Thai International Travel Fair.

In an interview with TTR Weekly, Mr Ostendorf, who covers sales in the UK, North America, Middle East,  and Asia, said Thailand was a key target in the bid to open up tourism from Southeast Asia.

VisitBerlin is the official name and branding of a tourist services agency representing Berlin’s tourism. Read more

Ministry backs agents in visa scandal

BANGKOK, 7 July 2011 – Thai Travel Agents Association revealed, Tuesday, it has succeeded in gaining a promise from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek clarification from European ambassadors on travel industry allegations of prejudicial treatment when Thai people apply for a Schengen Visa.

TTAA has collected complaints from 50 travel agents who claimed specific embassies were causing serious delays and inconvenience in obtaining visas for group travel to Europe.

A meeting was held, last week, with the foreign ministry resulting in a promise to act as a mediator between ambassadors at specific European embassies and the association.

Visa official shows Thai agent the door

BANGKOK, 20 May 2011 – An expatriate executive handling visa applications on behalf of the French embassy in Bangkok threatened to kick a local travel agency owner off the premises after she challenged a decision to reject three visas applications.

A visa processing company, TLScontact, handles the visa process for the French embassy, which includes managing interview slots for all visa applications.

The travel agency owner, who is a leading member of the Thai Travel Agents Association, told TTR Weekly, in a telephone interview Thursday, the TLScontact official was offensive threatening to physically evict her. Read more

Trips to Japan dry up

BANGKOK, 17 March 2011 – Thai travellers are cancelling trips causing unprecedented losses for local travel agents estimated at around Bt3.5 billion.

Travel Agents Association president, Charoen Wangananont, reported Wednesday leisure travel bookings had been cancelled outright, mainly due to fears of radiation leaks after a nuclear plant was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami.

Northeast Japan was hit by a massive earthquake and a tsunami, Friday, 11 March. Up until today, authorities estimate the disaster killed 5,178 residents, while 8,606 are still reported missing.

Ibis offers fair deals

BANGKOK, 17 February 2011 – All seven Ibis hotels in Thailand will sell a promotional rate of Bt1,199 a night at the 8th Thai International Travel Fair 2011, 24 to 27 February the group announced Wednesday.

The deal can be booked only at the fair and is valid until October 2011.

The standard rate at an Ibis hotel is in the range of Bt2,000 (Bangkok hotels) to Bt3,000 in some resorts such as Samui.

TTAA plans second fair

BANGKOK, 10 February 2011 – Thai Travel Agents Association revealed Monday, it will host a second travel fair, 18 to 21 August, as a follow-up to its popular annual trade show, which opens in Bangkok 24 February.

Reservations for booths for the 9th TITF opened opened at the same time with  280 booths booked, this week, of which 180 are for travel agencies.

The budget to organise the 9th TITF will be around Bt30 million.

Big turnout forecast for TTAA show

BANGKOK, 9 February 2011 – Krungthai Card PLC expects credit card spend on travel products at the up-coming 8th Thai International Travel Fair 2011 to reach Bt300 million, the company reported Monday.

The four-day event will be held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, 24 to 27 February.

Travel spend at the show last year reached Bt1 billion in cash and credit card purchases. KTC executive vice president for membership marketing, Pittaya Vorapanyasakul, said the performance included Bt275 million spent through KTC credit cards. The show attracted 800,000 consumers.

TTAA expands fair features

BANGKOK, 25 January 2011 – Thai Travel Agents Association said it will add new conference feature at the 8th Thai International Travel Fair 2011, 24 to 27 February, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

The new feature will allow tourism related companies to present their products and services in theatre-style meeting rooms, TTAA manager Sawanit Singtoroj told TTR Weekly Monday.

There will be three theatre-like presentation rooms available for bookings that must be made in advance by exhibitors. Each room will offer eight sessions a day starting from 1100 to 1800 with each session lasting 45 minutes. The presentations schedule will be posted daily to advise fair visitors.
