Vietnam tourism in top gear

HANOI, 2 August 2017: Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 1,036,880 international visitors in July representing an increase of 21.1% over the same month last year.

China was the top supply market with 329,319 visits improving 24.8%. Other top performers were South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and the United States.

Thailand slipped off the top 10 list recording 17,960 visits representing a marginal 0.5% increase over the same month last year. Read more

Thai tourism outlook bright

BANGKOK, 20 April 2017: Kasikorn Research Centre estimates 11.81 million international travellers will visit Thailand generating THB612 billion during January to April this year.

The bank’s think-tank unit said inbound tourism has been challenged since the beginning of this year due to a slowdown of tourist arrivals particularly from China and mainly so-called zero-dollar tours.

This resulted in a marginal growth of 0.7% in inbound tourism, January to March. Major markets that lifted arrivals in Q1 were Russia, Lao PDR, South Korea and India. Read more

Indonesia hits 2016 target

JAKARTA, 23 February 2017: Indonesia welcomed slightly more than 12 million international visitors in 2016, representing a 15.54% increase year-on-year.

Ministry of Tourism deputy minister for international tourism marketing, I Gede Pitana, and National of Bureau of Statistics head, Suharyono, confirmed at a press conference, last week, that the country had reached its 12 million target set for 2016.

The year’s tally closed at 12.023 million visits including data from secondary border checkpoints. Read more

Vietnam tops 10 million visits

HANOI, 5 January 2017: Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 897,279 international visitors in December 2016 representing an increase of 17.9% over same month in 2015.

China was the top supply market with 216,662 visits improving 28.1%. Other top performers were South Korea, Japan, Russia and Malaysia.

Thailand ranked in ninth place recording 27,643 visits down by 4.9% when compared to the same month in 2015. Read more

It outshone London by close to 2 million visits clocking up 21.47 million tourist arrivals. But does last week’s revelation tell the whole story of Thailand’s journey to tourism success? Probably not.

Bangkok top in visits

BANGKOK, 4 October 2016: When you count the sheer volume of overnight tourist arrivals Bangkok is the top city, worldwide, according to the sixth annual Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.

Released in last month, the index ranks 132 cities, worldwide, based on the tourist arrivals count.

According to the study, Bangkok will accommodate 21.47 million tourist arrivals this year. The count does not take into account purpose of visits and is  entirely based on reported data provided by authorities. In the case of Bangkok, the figure is based on Immigration Bureau passport checks at the city’s two international airports. Read more

Vietnam’s travel expands

HANOI, 3 October 2016: Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 813,007 international visitors in September representing an increase of 28.0% over same month last year.

China was the top supply market with 235,077 visits improving 55.9%. Other top performers were South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia.

Thailand slipped off the top 10 list recording 18,016 visits, but still representing an increase of 26.5% over the same month last year. Read more

Global tourism grows 4%

MADRID, 30 September 2016: International tourist arrivals, worldwide, grew by 4% between January and June, a year-on-year comparison with Asia-Pacific leading growth markets.

Destinations worldwide received 561 million international tourists (overnight visits), 21 million more than in 2015, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.

Asia and the Pacific demonstrated renewed strength this first half of 2016, receiving 9% more international arrivals, the highest growth across world regions. Read more

Thailand’s daily visitor tally slow

BANGKOK, 26 August 2016: Tourist arrivals through the country’s main gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport, have continued to slow down between 5% to 8% daily for a 12-day period following the bombs attacks in the seven southern provinces, 11 to 12 August.

Tourism officials said the decline was not excessive, claiming it was manageable and consistent with past performance figures during a crisis.

They highlighted the need to maintain the heightened security and build travel confidence across the country, while being alert. They noted that attacks in tourist destinations are occurring worldwide in popular tourist destinations. Read more
