LOS ANGELES, 13 July, 2017: The Star Alliance Lounge located at Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles Airport was voted best alliance lounge at the Skytrax World Airline Awards for the third year in a row.

Presenting the award to the lounge team, Star Alliance, vice president customer experience Christian Draeger said: “Getting this accolade three years in a row is testament to the fact that we have a fantastic team operating and managing our LA Lounge.”

Member carrier Air New Zealand developed the Alliance’s LAX lounge and manages the facility on behalf of Star Alliance. Read more

Lens Lines: THAI joins Star celebration

BANGKOK, 18 May 2017: Thai Airways International one of the five founding members of Star Alliance, joined the alliance’s 20 years anniversary celebration, “Connecting People and Cultures” in Frankfurt, last week.

Air India shifts to Heathrow’s Terminal 2

LONDON, 27 January 2017: Star Alliance member carrier, Air India, has successfully moved all its operations at London Heathrow’s Airport from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2, the home of Star Alliance.

The national airline of India operates up to eight daily flights in and out of Heathrow with either Boeing 777 or Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and has been serving London for nearly 70 years.

At present it offers two daily flights to Delhi, one daily flight to Mumbai, four weekly flights to Ahmedabad and three weekly flights to Newark (New York). Read more

CAPA says TG at crossroads

BANGKOK, 3 November 2016: Thai Airways International is approaching a critical crossroads as it completes a restructuring and seeks to return to profit, according to the latest Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation’s analysis.

CAPA said THAI is sandwiched between rapidly expanding low-cost airlines and ambitious Gulf airlines that use Bangkok as a regional gateway. Its multi-brand strategy, which includes equity in low-cost airlines, has so far failed to stem the passenger migration to competitors.

On the positive side, the airline’s management said it expects more Thais to trade up to full-service airlines for travel beyond Asia. But national mourning for the Late HM the King will last for one year and could dampen outbound travel demand from Thailand. Read more

FRANKFURT, 4 October 2016: Star Alliance is offering two round-the-world tickets for a good cause and is inviting members of the public to decide which of the six shortlisted nominees should be selected to travel the world with a companion.

Each nominee was put forward by one of the travel bloggers who recently completed their own Round-the World-trip with Star Alliance.

With a brief to select an individual or charity “deserving” of a Round-the-World trip, the bloggers researched and proposed individuals who had impressed them, and could  serve as a source of inspiration to others. Read more

The latest themed around-the-world fares are available on a dedicated website and allow passengers to create a journey from scratch.

Star streamlines Narita check-in

TOKYO, 8 July 2016: Star Alliance has completed the rollout of a new check-in concept in the south wing at Tokyo – Narita Terminal 1.

It offers customers a wider choice of check-in options and gives them more control over this part of the travel process, thereby creating time savings.

To achieve this, the layout of the check-in area was changed and travellers will now find the check-in desks allocated by airline rather than class of travel, as was previously the case in Narita. Read more

Star hub tracks bags

ZURICH, 7 June 2016: Star Alliance will invest in multi-million dollar technology projects that will streamline baggage handling and information through an alliance IT hub.

The new IT hub is scheduled to go online by the end of 2016 and is the latest in a series of similar “plug and play” applications that the alliance chiefs say will support member airlines behind the scenes.

The announcement came during a meeting of chief executives of the Star Alliance member airlines on Saturday. Read more

Star Alliance back in Brazil

WARSAW, POLAND, 25 June 2015: Star Alliance airline CEOs gave the go-ahead for the inclusion of a new member in Brazil, while endorsing enhancements to improve the network travel experience.

LOT Polish Airlines hosted the mid-year Chief Executive Board meeting, earlier this week.

As the hosting carrier, LOT outlined its new strategy – “a new LOT in a new Europe” that will double the airline size over the next five years.
