Thai Airways International reintroduces its Johannesburg service, 2 June, four times a week using a two-class 292-seat Boeing 777-200ER .
The airline first flew to South Africa in 2006 and was forced to discontinue the service in January 2009 due to high fuel costs, poor aircraft choice, a global economic downturn, internal political problems and the company’s lack of liquidity, according to the airline’s financial report.

Thai Airways International says it will use its 50th anniversary celebrations to extend its reach through website and mobile phone communications.
THAI will kick off mobile services, via mthaiairways.com. Customers will be able check-in, find information and flight status using their mobile phones. Check-in via mobile phone will be identical to check-in via a computer.
On the website, the airline will reduce booking steps from seven clicks to four clicks to complete a booking in a more user-friendly manner. It has also started to display lower fares on the website to attract traffic.
Jet Airways fishes for World Cup traffic

Mumbai-based Jet Airways will start a new daily service, 14 April, to Johannesburg in South Africa. Passengers from Thailand will be able to connect with the new flight using the airline’s Bangkok-Mumbai service.
The airline’s CEO, Nikos Kardassis said: “South Africa’s reputation as a leading tourist and business destination and the fact that it will play host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup presents a huge opportunity for Jet Airways.”
