Genting Dream makes Singapore home

SINGAPORE, 22 November 2017: Mega cruise ship, Genting Dream, departed on its first cruise of Southeast Asia from its home-base in Singapore last weekend.

Genting Cruise Lines’ decision to make Singapore the home-port will boost Singapore’s ambitions to become the cruise hub of ASEAN, the Straits Times said in report following a press conference after the 18-deck cruise ship docked.

Singapore Tourist Board tweeted the Straits Times report to a worldwide audience and media adding: “Tripartite partnership between STB, @ChangiAirport & Genting Cruise Lines is estimated to bring in 600,000 visitors and more than SGD250 million in tourism receipts.” Read more

Princess: Five years cruising Asia

SINGAPORE, 29 September 2017:  Princess Cruises reports it will homeport in Singapore for a fifth consecutive season (2018-19) with the deployment of Sapphire Princess and her twin sister ship Diamond Princess.

This will be the first time that Princess Cruises will have two ships based at Marina Bay Cruise Centre to meet increasing demand for both short and long-haul cruises from Singapore.

For the upcoming 2017-18 season in Singapore, Sapphire Princess will  offer three to 13-night sailings in Southeast Asia, bringing over 40,000 international guests to the region from November to March 2018. Read more

Cruise ship in hit and run

JAKARTA, 20 March 2017: Indonesia summoned the British ambassador Friday after a cruise ship on a voyage organised by a London-based company smashed into coral reefs in a popular tourist spot and caused extensive damage.

Raja Ampat, in eastern Indonesia, is one of the world’s most biodiverse marine habitats that attracts intrepid travellers and divers to its palm-fringed islands surrounded by coral and fish.

The accident happened this month when the 4,200-ton Caledonian Sky smashed into the reefs at low tide around Kri, one of hundreds of small islands in Raja Ampat, after taking tourists on a bird-watching expedition. Read more
