BAAR, Switzerland, 25 September, 2017: Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Julien Bonafous as vice president sales, a new role created to support the hospitality firm’s ongoing expansion drive.

Bonafous, whose 20-year career in the hotel industry has included several senior sales and marketing roles with key international players including Starwood, Hilton and IHG, is taking charge of Mövenpick’s sales strategy globally.

He will be responsible for leading the group’s sales operations, which include 17 international and area sales offices, worldwide, ensuring sales activity is aligned to key marketing objectives across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and in Asia where the group’s footprint is expanding at pace. Traveltek opens shop in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, 7 September, 2017: UK-based Traveltek Group has made its debut in North Asia, opening an office in Hong Kong to sell its dynamic packaging and cruise booking technology.

Asia’s cruise industry is growing rapidly, with passenger numbers from the region rocketing 40% from 774,536 in 2012 to 2.08 million in 2015, according to Cruise Lines International Association figures.

China was the biggest source market by far, accounting for 47.4% of total passenger volume. Read more

China sales go tabletop

BANGKOK, 18 August 2017: Thai Hotels Association is inviting members to join a Hotels Meet Local Agents Chinese Speaking Marketplace, 1330 to 1930, 22 September.

The sales event will be held at Chaturathit and Parichart rooms, Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok.

THA is cooperating with the Association of Thai Travel Agents to organise the programme, which will provide opportunities for hotel and tour operators to negotiate business and exchange knowledge at tabletop sessions. Read more

TUI summer sales lift spirits

FRANKFURT, 16 August 2017: German travel group TUI confirmed a bright outlook for its full financial year as summer bookings lifted the mood following a net loss in the first half.

TUI, whose business year runs from October to September, reported a net profit of 47.7 million euros (USD56 million) between April and June, a fall of some 45% compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, operating, or underlying profit grew 37.2% to 221.6 million euros on an adjusted basis, on the back of revenues up 12.6% at almost 4.8 billion. Read more

Robust sales in Bangkok’s hotel market

BANGKOK, 27 July 2017: Direct investment in Thailand’s hotel sector reached THB10.7 billion in the first half of 2017, according to JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group.

This figure is attributed to four major transactions, comprising of five hotels in Bangkok and Pattaya.

“As a comparison, 2016’s full-year investment volume was only THB 9.6 billion,” said JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group head of investment sales Asia, Mike Batchelor. “The robust investment activity recorded in the first half reflects investors’ continued appetite for hospitality assets in Thailand and confidence in the long-term outlook of the country’s tourism industry.” Read more

Lion flies two new routes

BANGKOK, 23 March 2017: Thai Lion Air has opened sales for two new services due to be launched 26 March.

The low-cost airline, based at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport will add services, to Nanjing, China and Phitsanulok, a commercial city 400 km north of the Thai capital.

The airline will offer a daily flight to Nanjing using a Boeing 737 with a departure time of 1600 from Don Mueang airport. Read more

Kowloon Shangri-La on a mission

BANGKOK, 25 January 2017: Kowloon Shangri-La  embarked on a sales mission in the Thai capital this week to convince Thai travellers to revisit Hong Kong and explore its shopping.

The hotel’s general manager, Ulf Bremer, led the team that entertained Bangkok’s major consumer media for lunch and made sales calls on tour companies and corporate meetings planners.

“We have identified three key outbound markets, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, that hold promise for the hotel,” he told TTR Weekly. Read more
