Thomas Cook outlook bright

LONDON, 27 September 2017: British travel firm, Thomas Cook, faced a “challenging” September as it took care of 22,000 customers in destinations hit by Hurricane Irma, it said Tuesday alongside a bright trading update.

Thomas Cook was forced to evacuate some of 7,500 customers from its badly-hit resorts in Cuba, a company spokeswoman said.

The group provided also support for 10,000 customers in Florida and 4,500 in the Dominican Republic, but there was no need for evacuation programmes, the spokeswoman said. Read more

HONG KONG, 15 September 2017: Leading luxury hospitality brand, Pavilions Hotels & Resorts, has unveiled The Ginto Residences in Niseko, Japan, as the company introduces hotel and residential projects in destinations across Asia and Europe.

The first phase of the global project is a land release on which a collection of luxury villas will be built in Niseko, the exclusive mountain destination on the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Work stops play at Bali resorts

BALI, 14 September 2017: Urgent repairs and improvements are underway at two resorts on the popular tourist island; Seminyak Beach Resort and Spa and Keyana Seminkak.

At the Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa, work is underway to repair a damaged seafront retaining wall, stairs to the beach and a temple pavilion.

Damage was caused by exceptionally strong tidal waves, Asian Trails’ latest trade update stated. Read more

InVision GLOWS in Vietnam

HANOI, 6 September 2017: Bangkok-based InVision Hospitality announced, Tuesday, it has secured the management contract for Scenic Bay Complex  in Nha Trang, Vietnam

InVision Hospitality CEO, Kevin Beauvais and Nam Tien Lao Cai JSC general director, Cao Thi Thu Hien, participated in a signing ceremony in Vietnam, last week.

The large-scale project requires an investment estimated at VND2.05 trillion USD$93.4 million) and covers 7,666 square metres of land area. Read more

Accor resort to be a Raffles

SINGAPORE, 22 August 2017: AccorHotels announced its first management contract for a resort in the Maldives, effective 1 September.

The group will take over Dhevanafushi Maldives Luxury Resort that occupies the private island of Meradhoo.

The resort will be repositioned following improvements to be completed by late 2018. It will then join the iconic collection of Raffles hotels and resorts. Read more

Quality list aids travel

BANGKOK, 7 August 2017: Thailand’s Department of Tourism reports 673 establishments in 2016 passed evaluation and were accredited under the Thailand Tourism Standard scheme.

Released last week on the department’s website, the list identified establishments that had achieved the standard in the categories of accommodation, services, activities, attractions, tour business and tour guiding.

The scheme’s list, written in Thai, was introduced to raise standards and upgrade the country’s tourism businesses. It is geared to assisting domestic tourists to identify quality services, while building their travel confidence. Read more

Outrigger brings Campbell back

PHUKET, 5 July 2017: Outrigger Enterprises Group has appointed Rory Campbell as area director of sales and marketing, responsible for the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort and the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort, both in Thailand.

The appointment, effective 1 July, 2017, is Campbell’s second stint with Outrigger in Thailand.

He was director of sales and marketing for the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort for two years 2013 to 2015 and general manager of the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort until 2016. Read more

Chinese cash revives Club Med

NICE, FRANCE, 28 June 2017: Club Med has embarked on global expansion with eight resorts having opened during the last two year and at least 20 more planned for China according to Club Med president Henri Giscard d’Estaing.

He made the comments on the sidelines of celebrations to mark the opening of Club Med’s Opio Resort in Nice, last week.

In the past 10 years, the Club Med president admitted the company had opened “very few resorts.” Read more
