Catalan crisis cuts hotel bookings

MADRID, 8 December 2017: Hotel reservations in Barcelona are down by 10% in the first quarter of 2018 over the same time last year due to Catalonia’s separatist crisis, which could lead to job losses in the sector, industry lobby group Exceltur said earlier this week.

If the trend continues “tourism company heads may have to start adjusting the number of their employees to adapt to lower levels of demand,” Exceltur — which groups Spain’s major hotel chains and tour operators — said in a statement.

Hotels expect they would have to reduce their staff by an average of 8.2%, while car rental firms predict they would shrink their payrolls by about 5%, it added. Read more

NokScoot signs Hahn Air support

DREIEICH, 28 November 2017: NokScoot has implemented Hahn Air Systems’ H1-Air product, giving the Thai-based carrier access to HR-169 ticketing in all major GDSs worldwide under the reservation code H1.

Earlier in 2017, the airline signed an HR-169 interline agreement with Hahn Air, a provider of airline distribution services, making NokScoot available under its own XW code in the Abacus/Sabre, Amadeus and Travelsky GDSs.

NokScoot is the 15th partner to benefit from the two products of the Hahn Air Group. Read more

PARIS, 21 August 2017: The attacks in Catalonia may hit tourist numbers, but the recent experience of other European countries suggests it will likely be brief, industry experts said.

Cancellations, early departures, fewer reservations: the impact of a terror attack on an European city can last from three to six months, said tourism professionals.

Belmond booking office in Manila

MANILA, 7 June 2017: Luxury travel specialist, Belmond, has opened a new central reservations office in Manila, in a move to improve customer service in the Asia-Pacific region.

Belmond consultants will be based in Manila to arrange  travel to destinations in Myanmar, Peru, Africa and Italy, spanning the company’s portfolio of trains, river cruises, heritage hotels and safari lodges.

Amadeus taps hotel system

BANGKOK, 23 July 2015: Amadeus will expand its technology to the hotel industry with the acquisition of Netherlands-based Itesso BV, a provider of cloud-native property management systems (PMS).

With its new cloud-native Itesso Enterprise Lodging System (Itesso ELS), the company is leading the industry towards a new generation of property management solutions. Itesso also currently provides PMS technology to 1,800 properties worldwide.

This deal brings Amadeus closer to its vision of bringing together systems known today as Central Reservation Systems (CRS), Property Management Systems (PMS), Revenue Management Systems (RMS), Sales & Catering and others, into a cloud-based community model platform.
