Rakhine in the throes of land grab?

BANGKOK, 29 September 2017: Battered by global outrage over an army crackdown on Rohingya Muslims, Myanmar has found comfort in an old friend – China, an Asian superpower whose unflinching support is tied to the billions it has lavished on ports, gas and oil in violence-hit Rakhine state.

Close to half a million Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh in the last month after a militant attack sparked a vicious military campaign that the UN has called “ethnic cleansing”.

China — which is expected to speak later Thursday at a UN Security Council meeting on the crisis — has fallen out of step with much of the world in condemning the army-led crackdown. Read more

STR monitors regional hotel expansion

LONDON, 17 July 2017: STR’s June 2017 Pipeline Report shows 612,210 rooms in 2,767 hotel projects under contract in the Asia Pacific region.

The total represents a 6.2% increase in rooms under contract compared with June 2016.

Under contract data includes projects in the in construction, final planning and planning stages, but does not include projects in the unconfirmed stage. Read more

LONDON, 15 February 2017: STR’s January 2017 Pipeline Report shows 598,952 rooms in 2,670 hotel projects are under contract in the Asia Pacific region.

The total represents a 2.2% increase in rooms under contract compared with January 2016.

Under contract data includes projects under construction and in various stages of planning, but does not include projects in that have yet to be confirmed. Read more

Four Seasons in the pipeline

TORONTO, 25 January 2017: Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is strengthening its presence in the luxury hotel and residential space with a pipeline of more than 50 projects at various stages of planning and development.

The pipeline includes ongoing projects in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur that are now under construction.

The group says it is singularly focused on the luxury segment, rather than offering brands in multi-markets. Read more
